Blockchain Technology Explained in Layman's Terms

by Matthew Russell - Posted 1 year ago

Welcome my CryptoComics Compatriots. Whenever I get asked about CryptoComics Marketplace and the technology behind it, their eyes glass over. After a half-hour “lesson” in blockchain Technology, Crypto Currency, and NFTs; I get the exact same question…

Can you explain it to me like a 5-year-old? Well, yes. Here is everything about CryptoComics broken down into its simplest form for you to understand.

BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

A blockchain is like a special kind of notebook where we can write down important information and keep it safe. Imagine every time you draw a picture or write a story, you put it in a notebook and give a copy to your friends.

And then, every time one of your friends adds something new to the notebook, they give a copy to all their friends, and so on. In this way, everyone has the same notebook with the same information and we can be sure that the information is true and not changed.

This notebook is called a blockchain and it's used to keep important information safe and make sure that it's not changed or lost.

SECURITY ON THE BLOCKCHAIN

Now, imagine a bad person who wants to steal your secrets, but because the notebook (from the above scenario) is split into many copies, the bad person would have to steal all the copies from all the friends, which is next to impossible.

It's like trying to break into a secret club with many members, and even if one member is not there, the bad person can't get in. That's how blockchain technology keeps important information safe, it's like a secret club where it's hard for bad people to steal the secrets.

NFT

An NFT is like a special trading card that you can only have a few of in the whole world. It's like a baseball card, but instead of a baseball player, it's a picture, a video, or even a tweet. In our case, it is an actual comic book.

It's special because no one else has the same one, it's one of a kind! And you can keep it safe on your computer and even show it to your friends, and if you want to, you can even sell it to someone else who wants it.

POLYGON NETWORK

The Polygon Network is like a super-fast highway that helps lots of cars go to different places at the same time. Just like how a highway helps cars get to their destination quickly and smoothly, the Polygon Network helps digital information move faster and more efficiently.

This network is built on top of another network called Ethereum, which is like a big city with many roads. The Polygon Network is like a new and improved road system within that city, which makes it faster and easier for digital information to get where it needs to go.

It's like building a new, faster highway to make it easier for cars to get around the city. Plus toll fees are far less.

dApp

A dApp is like a special kind of computer game that you can play with your friends online. It's like Minecraft or Roblox, but instead of just playing it on your own, you can play it with people all over the world, and you can even make your own rules and worlds. It's like a big playground where you can build and create things with your friends, and it's all stored on a computer, so you can play it anytime you want.

CRYPTOCURRENCY

Cryptocurrency is like digital money that we can use to buy things online or in some stores. It's like the money you get in your piggy bank, but instead of coins and bills, it's stored on a computer. You can use it to buy things you like, like toys or ice cream, just like you use your pocket money.

But it's special because it's not made of paper or metal, it's made of computer code and it can be sent to people all over the world just with a few clicks. Some people even use it as a way to save their money and watch it grow like a piggy bank, but with CryptoCurrency, it's called a digital wallet.

DIGITAL COMICS

Digital comics are like reading a storybook on a computer or a tablet. It's like when you read your favorite storybook on your mom or dad's phone or iPad. It's just like a regular comic book that you can find in a store, but it's on a screen, you can use your finger to flip the pages, and you can even make the text bigger or smaller to read it better.

They have colorful illustrations and fun stories, just like the comics you find in a bookstore, but you can carry them with you everywhere you go and you don't have to worry about losing them or bending the pages.

Another cool thing is the fact that these comics can now have pictures that move or have a soundtrack like a movie or a play a video and more.

TO BE CONTINUED??

If you would like me to break down any more terms, please let me know. I would be more than happy to do so. It’s actually kind of fun to try to think about this from another perspective.
