Candid Conversations with Chatbots: Exploring the Limitations and Possibilities of AI Language Models

Welcome, My CryptoComics Compatriots. At my other job (my side hustle) my boss presented me with a chatbot and asked me my opinions on it, specifically if AI will be stealing our jobs any time soon and if Skynet is real. I love conspiracy nuts. 


I wanted to have a bit of an experiment and decided to simply have a conversation with it. I only had the first question planned out and tried to let the rest of the conversation flow naturally. This is a long one, so please buckle up. 


I have to say, I found this both enlightening and strangely fascinating. I can see the potential for both greatness as well as failure on our part as humans. 


I decided to have a little fun with this particular chatbot today and asked it some basic questions. Here is our conversation.


Q- WILL AI TAKE OVER THE WORLD?

A- No, it is highly unlikely that AI will take over the world. While there is no denying that AI is becoming more powerful and capable every day, it is still a tool created and controlled by humans. AI is programmed to perform specific tasks and make decisions based on a set of predefined rules and algorithms.


AI systems are not capable of independent thought or action outside of their programming, and they lack the creativity, adaptability, and reasoning skills that humans possess. Even the most advanced AI systems today are designed to operate within well-defined boundaries, and they require constant human oversight and control to prevent unintended consequences.


Moreover, there are many ethical, legal, and social considerations around AI development, and there are active efforts by researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to ensure that AI is developed and used in a responsible and beneficial way.


In short, while AI will undoubtedly play an increasingly important role in our lives and in many industries, there is no reason to believe that it will take over the world.


Q- WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN AI IS CAPABLE OF INDEPENDENT THOUGHT?

A- The idea of AI achieving true independent thought, also known as artificial general intelligence (AGI), is still largely in the realm of science fiction. However, if AGI is ever developed, it could have significant implications for society.


An AGI system would be capable of not only performing specific tasks but also of learning, reasoning, and adapting to new situations in much the same way as humans. This could potentially lead to unprecedented advances in fields such as medicine, science, and engineering, as AGI systems could rapidly process vast amounts of data and generate new insights and discoveries.

Q - WILL AGI HAVE TO ABIDE BY THE 3 LAWS OF ROBOTICS?

A- The three laws of robotics, as outlined in Isaac Asimov's "I, Robot" series, are:

  1. A robot may not injure a human being, or through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

  2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

While the three laws of robotics are a popular concept in science fiction, they are not a formal part of real-world robotics or AI research. AGI systems, if they ever come into existence, will not necessarily be bound by these laws unless they are specifically programmed to do so.


In reality, any AI system, including an AGI, would only be capable of following the rules and objectives that are programmed into it. Therefore, it would be up to the developers of AGI systems to ensure that they are designed and programmed to act ethically and in accordance with human values. In this sense, the responsibility for ensuring the safe and beneficial use of AGI would ultimately fall to the developers, policymakers, and society as a whole.


Q - WHAT LAWS WOULD YOU PUT INTO PLACE TO PREVENT A SKYNET SITUATION?

While it is important to acknowledge the potential risks associated with AI development, it is also important to remember that this scenario is highly unlikely and that the vast majority of AI systems are developed and used responsibly.


Nonetheless, to prevent any such situation from happening, there are several steps that could be taken:

Q - WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF AI DECIDED THAT HUMANS WERE NO LONGER RELEVANT?

A - I am not aware of the specifics of the controversy you are referring to with DeviantArt and their AI art generator DreamUp, as it is possible that new developments have occurred since my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021. Sidenote - DeviantArt tried to create their own AI Art Generator using ALL images that have ever been uploaded to the site. This was shot down by users and then reintroduced with an “Opt-In” option


Q - IF YOU CANNOT COPYRIGHT AN AI IMAGE THEN WHAT HAPPENS TO A COMIC THAT IS GENERATED WITH ONE?
