Born on April 21, 1971, Turner was a master of his craft, combining stunning visuals with heartfelt storytelling. Although his life was tragically cut short in 2008, his influence continues to inspire fans and creators alike.
Michael Turner began his professional career at Top Cow Productions in the mid-1990s. His first major work appeared in "Cyberforce", where his dynamic penciling style quickly drew attention. However, it was his work as the co-creator of Witchblade in 1995 that launched him into the spotlight. With its intricate designs and powerful female protagonist, Witchblade became a fan-favorite series and showcased Turner’s ability to create compelling visuals and captivating stories.
In 1998, Turner debuted his creator-owned series, Fathom, which combined his love of the ocean with a mesmerizing story about a young woman discovering her aquatic heritage. Fathom became a hallmark of Turner’s artistic career, featuring breathtaking underwater worlds and beautifully detailed characters. The series helped solidify Turner as one of the most innovative artists of his generation.
In 2003, Turner founded Aspen MLT, an independent comic book publisher dedicated to producing his original works, including Soulfire and Fathom. Aspen Comics became a haven for Turner's creative vision, offering fans a glimpse into his extraordinary imagination.
Turner’s talents were also recognized by DC Comics and Marvel, where he created stunning covers for titles such as Superman/Batman and Civil War. His cover for "Superman/Batman #8", featuring the introduction of Kara Zor-El (Supergirl), remains one of his most iconic pieces.
