Lacking a hook

I don't think there's anything really terrible about this comic but for a first issue, it doesn't seem to do much to make me want to read the next one. The art is pretty decent so I don't have much to complain about there, but the writing and presentation in this one seems really off, almost as though someone tried to write a manga with nothing to go on except a premise. That's a shame because the first two pages seem like they are leading up to something which then immediately transitions into some kind of "a day in the life of" sequence which ends up going nowhere. There's a few clichés thrown in too which I can accept as part of the territory but none of them are executed well, such as Flybutt. The main character spends 4 pages berating him for no apparent reason other than I guess because he's supposed to be annoying comic-relief character. It's written as though we as the readers are supposed to find this banter amusing but it spends way too many panels on it and seems to be nothing more than a distraction. I'd have much preferred this time be spent on introducing more of the story, which sounds like it could be good if I could only just see it. There's also one of those segues where May stops to explain something to the reader. I know I could say this could be better explained passively rather than directly, but I know this is kind of inherent to some manga and anime and I'm fine with accepting that, but it's not the right time to be explaining the nuances of the story when there is really barely a reason to care about what is happening so far.

I really can't overstate how very little happens in this issue. Unfortunately the description for this manga ends up being far deeper than anything I read here which is quite backwards. I'll maybe give this a try later when there's more content to see if things have improved but at the moment, I don't have much of a reason to return to this.

Great setup to an epic world!!

As an otaku, I might be a bit biased.... However, this manga has a lot of potential and I look forward to any possible future installments.Although this may look like another "Soul Eater" or "RWBY" clone, it has its own lore and interesting characters! If you like those shows though, you'll love "DimensionLock" for sure! Please give this book a read and judge for yourself. You won't regret it! :)

Beautiful! Anime at its best!

I love this art style and writing. This is great! The simplicity and stunning nature of the art is something I've always tried to incorporate as an artist but have never mastered. VailedLight has this down and it is stunning. I love the lightheartedness of the characters as well as the darker tone. It is so amazing how the writer is able to maintain that balance. I want to read more ASAP.
