Overcoming the Odds: Creator Spotlight with Bazil Asang

by Lindsey Winsemius - Posted 4 years ago

We were privileged to sit down with Bazil Azeh Asang and hear his inspiring story

As one viewer put it, 'goosebumps'! While it wouldn't be a CryptoComics Livestream without some technical difficulties and embarrassing dad jokes, the real message from Bazil was poignant and as beautiful as his art. We are humbled that he took the time to share, joining us all the way from Cameroon.

Watch his story, and then join using an exclusive invite from his profile page to read his extraordinary comics yourself.

About Bazil Asang, in his own words:

CC:  Would you consider yourself a writer, or artist?

BA:  Artist

CC:  Can you tell us a little about yourself?

BA:  I am an energized youth who intends to heal souls, put smile on faces and improve on the economic growth using comics.

Arts (comics) and I are birds of a feather, and I have been doing it since I was 10 years old, today I am 31..my dream is to help improve on the economic growth of my community through technology, arts and design. I am founder of a company called ZTAD (zenara technology arts and design).

Nature is my main source of inspiration. I enjoy Rock music (especially "Killswitch Engage") and Makossa. I am most often reading, creating and learning new skills to help me achieve my dream. Aside from comics, I am a software developer, a graphic designer, house plan conception and design.(CAD specialist)

CC:  Do you have any formal training or are you self-taught?

BA:  Self taught (comics/art), training for my other skills.

CC:  Describe your style.

BA:  Low saturation colors, fantasy and mythological inspired.

CC:  What would you say most motivates you to do what you do?

BA:  I believe I can create positive impact through comics, and mostly I have an intense passion for it.

CC:  Are you inspired by any particular works or creators?

Yeah, the words of most rock bands "especially kill switch engage". And the comic world, I believe we are all connected and somehow help each other out in way unknown even to us.

CC:  Do you work with others? If so, tell us about them.

BA:  Yeah, we roll with a team

Asang Ronald - Co creator/Co founder (ZTAD) (writer)

Mr Teham (one time publisher)

The entire ztad team

CC:  What creation are you most proud of?

Katongo - Relics of a Broken Empire

Katongo by Bazil Asang

CC:  Can you tell me about your current project?

BA:  Katongo - robe is our current project. It's a story taken place in prehistoric era. Katongo is on a quest to seek knowledge about his kind and how he can redeem them back to greatness. Kishani is on a quest to restore his land back to the richness it once enjoy...in these processes they both discovered hidden truths and complexities that non could ever imagine. The story is filled with great dialog, intense combat scenes, rich bank of designs and creations, impeccable imaginations, moments and more...enjoy

CC:  What passions do you have outside of comics?

BA:  Software development. I like to help and make small n medium size companies in my community to reach their full potential by providing for them automated systems. Creating software products is like a brother to my comics.

CC:  Do you have any thoughts about the comic book industry?

BA:  I only pray and wish that independent creators all over the world can also have a chance and medium to tell their stories..reason while I really appreciate the CryptoComics platform, thanks for this initiative.

CC:  Do you have any advice for anyone that is just joining the industry for the first time, or looking to join the industry?

BA:  Firstly I welcome them to the club with a glass of wine. There is nothing more interesting than seeing people smile over your creation, you can help a soul heal just with that. But they must learn patients, diligent and keep creating. The sun doesn't shine much on us independent creators so we create light and heat for ourselves.

One last thing, there is no expert in arts, we are all connected and inspired by the works of each other.

CC:  Anything you would like to add?

CC:  I will wish that we can find a way to help each other grow in the comic universe, I have seen some artist abandoned the dream and we lost good stories because no one was there to support them, or they just didn't see a financial survival out of it. Please, let's create a board for us creators, where a creator can even take a loan and promote his/her work, and the board can also benefit from this and use the money to help other creators, this way we increase the chance of success of at least a majority of creators around the world.
