Jemma Young's Fantasy Worlds: Comics, Patreon Perks, and Jemmalings

by Matthew Russell - Posted 2 days ago

Welcome, my CryptoComics Compatriots! This week’s featured creator is someone near and dear to the indie comics community: the one and only Jemma Young! I first met Jemma in person at FanX in Salt Lake City, and from the moment we talked, it was clear just how passionate and dedicated she is to her craft.

Not only is she a remarkable storyteller and artist, but she’s also a genuinely nice person, always engaging with her fans and peers alike. We've had the opportunity to do several videos together, and her enthusiasm is contagious every time.

After studying animation, Jemma began to focus on comics as her medium of choice, blending her love for both visual art and narrative storytelling. Over the years, she has attended multiple conventions, including FanX in Salt Lake City, where I had the pleasure of meeting her in person. These conventions have helped her connect directly with her fans, building an active and engaged community around her work.

Her flagship project, Children of Eldair, started as a webcomic and quickly gained a dedicated following due to its compelling characters and immersive world. The series has grown into a multi-layered fantasy epic with deep themes of loyalty, love, and sacrifice.

Jemma has always been fascinated with world-building, which is why her works resonate so much with fans of fantasy. Children of Eldair takes readers on a journey through a magical realm filled with ancient power struggles and personal conflicts, while Sorcerer Courtship and Temerity explore different genres, proving her versatility.

She is also a strong advocate for indie creators, often sharing tips and advice through her social media and Patreon on how to navigate the comic-making process as an independent artist.

Jemma's Work on CryptoComics

Jemma Young has brought a selection of her incredible works to the CryptoComics platform, and if you haven't checked them out yet, now is the perfect time! Let’s dive into three of her must-read titles:

1. Children of Eldair #1

Embera should be dead when Koe finds her unconscious and wounded in the wildlands of Eldair. Now he must help her find her friends.

This is the comic that really highlights Jemma’s ability to create an immersive world. Children of Eldair transports you into a mystical realm filled with magic, deep lore, and complex characters. The story centers around a powerful war and the people who must navigate the treacherous world it creates. With beautiful artwork and a rich storyline, this is the perfect starting point for any fantasy lover.

2. Sorcerer Courtship #1

In order to graduate, Koe must pass his courtship class. Which means talking to girls and going on dates. Needless to say, things get awkward.

If you enjoy romance mixed with magic, Sorcerer Courtship will sweep you off your feet. This series focuses on the charming and occasionally hilarious interplay between characters who find themselves entangled in magical relationships. Jemma’s storytelling here is both heartfelt and humorous, making this a great read if you're looking for a lighter, yet deeply satisfying narrative.

3. Temerity #1

Guardians of the Galaxy meets Firefly in this new scifi comic by Harley Quinn artist Chad Hardin and indie creator Jemma M. Young.Temerity is about Taeru, who is a very serious genetically enhanced super-soldier. Naia is a less serious sugar-addicted mercenary. Together they’re the best work-for-hire duo in the galaxy. In an intergalactic world of mechas, brain hacking, and terrible pun t-shirts, Taeru and Naia spend their days performing daring missions for their clients and fighting their own personal demons. This is the first issue containing 22 full color comic pages plus one bonus comic by Jemma!

Co-created with Chad Hardin, Temerity is an action-packed sci-fi adventure with a strong female lead and a killer team dynamic. It's fast-paced, with a perfect blend of action and witty banter. This comic is a brilliant example of Jemma’s versatility as a creator, as it showcases her talent for writing high-energy, character-driven stories that keep you hooked from start to finish.
