Features of A Creator: Gerimi

by Matthew Russell - Posted 3 weeks ago

Welcome, my CryptoComics Compatriots. I wanted to talk to you about my good friend and fellow creator Gerimi. He is the featured creator this week and his work is unparalleled. Today we are going to talk about him as a creator and his works Morningstar (the series as a whole) and Eye of the Gods.

Quick Disclaimer

As I have said, I consider Gerimi a friend. That being said, that is not the reason that he was chosen to become the featured creator, nor is that the reason that he is being featured here. It is a different department that decides who the featured creator will be every week. It was also just a coincidence that I started writing these reviews of their work with him.

Who is Gerimi?

Gerimi Burleigh is more than just a talented artist and storyteller—he's a genuinely kind and approachable person who deeply cares about his craft and his community. Be careful about starting a conversation with him, next thing you know it’s 3 hours later. The good part is, you will leave that conversation feeling that you just met someone who you’ve known your whole life and are all the better for it.

Known for his down-to-earth personality and willingness to share his knowledge, Gerimi has a way of making everyone feel welcome, whether they’re seasoned professionals or just starting their artistic journey. I can’t begin to describe all the little tips and insights that I gained from him. He should have a Master Class. His passion for comics is matched by his dedication to helping others succeed, often going out of his way to offer guidance, encouragement, and support.

Gerimi’s generosity and warmth make him not just a respected creator, but a beloved figure in the indie art world. I’m not just saying that, check out the video below if you don’t believe me.

Shared History with CryptoComics

I first got to interview him about 4 years ago. It's strange that it was that long ago. It doesn’t seem like it. Frey and I were able to get an interview with him when we were just starting to do interviews (Frey had a short beard and it’s funny.)

I was trying to start a community comic book where we would get the audience involved and try to create a comic together step-by-step and show the process. He was the first person I called. Although due to legal reasons, we were not able to finish the comic, his contribution was PHENOMENAL!!! Check out that video below.

Highlighting Gerimi's Notable Works

Eye of the Gods

Eye of the Gods was his first work. It is a truly exciting premise. I do wish that it was a far longer series. I believe that it would help to relate to the character a little more. Looking at the artwork, for a first outing, it is amazing. His artwork has come a long way since then, but this is spectacular. Check it out and you won’t be disappointed. I just hope there is a sequel someday.

EYE OF THE GODS is a psychological thriller about a man cursed with haunting visions he can not control. It combines the high-tension paranoia of ENEMY OF THE STATE with the foreboding chill of THE DEAD ZONE.

Sean Black undergoes surgery, cloning his eyes to restoring his failing vision. After the operation, he "dreams" of a murder, only to discover that it really happened…

…But the death isn't being reported as a crime. When his curiosity gets the best of him, Sean uncovers a conspiracy and sets off a chain of events that unravel his life.

Morningstar

This is the first comic I read from him. Morningstar is one of those gems that never seems to leave you. I love that this is Lucifer’s story told as a Western meets Oz.

At the dawn of creation, existence was a raw, untamed frontier. Seven gunfighting Archangels defended the town folk of Heaven from Daemons, primordial beasts dwelling in the void beyond. They strove to carve out a civilization from the chaos of the naked universe, but the greatest danger they faced was not from the wilderness. It was from within.

Artistic Style

His work reminds me a little of a more polished Michael S. Bracco (Creators) mixed with Jacen Burrows (Bad Signals). The black and whites give it that early underground feel. Don’t let that fool you, his mastery of color is untouchable. Just look at the covers or check out his work on his personal site. (I have a print of his Night Nurse on my wall, signed!!!)

Every brush stroke and gray tone is very deliberate.
